Did You Know
You are a carer if you provide help or support to a partner, parent, son, daughter, other relative, friend or neighbour who, due to disability, frailty, illness and/or vulnerability, cannot manage in the community without another's help.
Carers can be any age and need not necessarily live in the same house as the person they care for. They may be in receipt of carer's allowance/premium but otherwise undertake caring without payment.
There are approximately 12,000-13,000 carers living in the area. A significant proportion of these carers remain hidden, unaware of their entitlement to services and benefits. Your practice is actively identifying carers and encouraging them to get the support they need.
We can help with:
- Referrals to other agencies who are able to provide practical help, such as Social Services, benefits agencies, counselling service, local sitting service for breaks etc
- Offer information and up-to-date news regarding carers' issues
- A listening ear for carers
The carer support and information workers are very interested to hear carers' views and experiences.
